Today was a rather... interesting. It goes like this:
9:00 -- wake up, help mom frost cookies for a wedding, shower, get ready.
11:20 -- get picked up for a date with Tyler Johns (age 21), Jaclyn Johns' older brother.
12:00 -- finally head down to Provo after picking up another boy and his date.
12:30 -- lunch at Zupas.
1:30 -- head to BYU to watch The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in the planetarium. Yes, the planetarium.
3:30 -- drive home and find out he wants to ask me out again in a few weeks.
4:30 -- arrive home, touch up, change top, fix hair, etc.
5:15 -- get picked up by a family friend whose children will be babysat by my little sister because her and her husband are taking me out on a date.
5:30 -- arrive at Chili's. To meet him. Yes, this was a blind date. First one of my life. We ate at Chili's for about an hour. Hardly talked to each other but fortunately I went with people I knew and he went with his brother and sister-in-law. So it works. His name is Richard and he is 23 years old.
6:30 -- head to Jack and Jill's for some bowling. Lost twice.
8:00 -- start leaving but realize that we wanted to try our luck at winning an iPad from those machine things. We tried probably 15 times.
8:30 -- make it to Orem where we doorbell ditched 3 cardboard cutouts at his friend's apartment and then ended up stealing one of his friend's cutout and replacing it with Tiana from Princess and the Frog.
9:00 -- stop by his apartment in Provo to pick up a video game.
9:30 -- go to his brother's house and play Just Dance and Fruit Ninja on the Kinect.
11:30 -- head home. Doorstep scene was an exchange in numbers and a hug goodnight. Again, keep in mind I had just met this kid tonight.
12:00 -- he texts me: "Hey Vanessa thanks so much for going out with me tonight, it was honestly one of the best dates I've ever had! I know it's kind of close to Christmas and probably super busy but would you like to do something next week?"
I said sure. This date will entail dinner and seeing Sherlock Holmes.
Two free meals and plenty of free entertainment in one day is something I'm not gonna turn down! So all in all, I had a fun day.
Just didn't expect to get another date (or two) out of it.
Don't think I'm quite ready for this yet. But here goes nothing.

awkward.
Conveniently it's Thursday, so awkward Thursday? Got nothing too awesome, however, besides the fact that BYU kicked USU's butt in soccer today!
Anyways.
Today around 3 I was sitting on the couch doing some homework. I didn't have any makeup on but luckily I had done my hair.
Someone drives up and parks.
A guy gets out and starts walking up the driveway.
I peer at him and realize ... "Oh. My. Gosh. It's Jordan."
He knocked. I kinda sat there freaking out. I mean, I didn't have any makeup on and I was in sweats! No way presentable to a boy I hardly know.
I answer it. And he practically invites himself in.
What the heck are you doing here, Jordan? Just leave me alone. I don't really like you and I can tell you are all googly-eyed over me. That kind of turns me off.
So he tells me this story about how he got a new job at ASD working as a substitute teacher. He then said he was getting sworn in next week to be in the Airforce. I congratulated him. But the whole time I was thinking "Why are you telling me this? Why are you here?"
A few minutes later, the truth comes out. Apparently his job didn't approve of the jeans he was wearing--they were light and had rips in them, so classy--and he was in need of some new ones. So he asked me to come with him (smooth, right?).
Wait a second. GO SHOPPING WITH HIM?? I hardly know the kid! We've been on one date! How awkward is that?
I could hear snickering coming from the kitchen.
I politely said no. And I had a good reason! I started teaching at 3:30. 20 minutes isn't enough to go shopping. (And to be honest, I didn't really want to...)
What is this? I really hope I'm not giving off any vibes. Cause I'm really not.
Ugh.

didn't I tell you?
Remember Jared? Yeah, we met up and he bought me a Jamba Juice. yadayadayada
You've heard that one.
But now there's a new kid in town.
His name is Jordan.
What's with all the J names??
Hey, his middle name is James so that means something, right?
Anywho, moving on.
Sunday, I went to church. I came home and immediately dropped my skirt and put on my most comfortable sweats. It was not an hour later when the doorbell rings. No big deal, right? People always come over on a Sunday.
HA.
My dad walks down the stairs:
"Vanessa, Jordan's here for you."
Me (thinking what the heck?): "Dad, I don't know a Jordan..."
Dad: "Blonde hair, blue eyes...?"
Me: "Nope."
Dad: "Well come up anyways!"
I trudge upstairs in totally mismatched clothes to see a stranger standing in my doorway.
Jordan: "Hi Vanessa, my name is Jordan."
Tell me something I don't know.
Long story short, he asked me on a date.
I've never met him before in my life. Granted, I've seen him at church (he's in my singles ward) but I didn't even know his name.
And now I'm going on a date with him.
The stories keep getting better and better...
Stay tuned! I'm pretty sure I'll have something more exciting next week.

The perfect day.
First of all, I've decided that I absolutely LOVE teaching violin. Much more than piano. I'm so glad I got two violin students for the summer!
Date 1 (the real one):
Consisted of being picked up in his sky blue 1990 Honda Civic. We drove to his house, piled two kayaks on to this tiny Civic and one canoe on his Suburban, and headed up the windy roads into the beautiful nature that surrounds us, aka AF canyon. We parked at the nearly overflowing Tibble Fork Reservoir, and exited the car and were welcomed by gusts of cold wind. We unloaded. We carried everything down. And he and I went first, he insisting we use the kayaks. Out on the lake, we discussed things. He discovered my love for longboarding and said we're going to go soon. I cannot wait! After heading to shore, we ate some lunch. Yes, the boys had packed a picnic. Ham and cheese sandwiches! Mmmm. I actually like those. And Oreos are always a must!
I'm rather impressed by this young man. He had been promising me a date for months now and finally, after enough razzing, he took me out. It was absolutely the most pleasant date I have been on. He even made sure I got home early enough to make it to work on time. What a gentleman! Thank you, Kyle, for a marvelous date! And now, we must longboard :)
Date 2 (the spontaneous one):
Began with a jam session. It had been a long time since we had jammed last. Again, he amazed me with his incredible talent. He played and I sat and listened. He taught me how to improvise better. He showed me how to increase my ability with perfect pitch. He quizzed me to see how close I could get. I only missed one and even got F#! After jamming, we got in his truck. By this time, it was 10:00 at night, maybe a little too late to begin a date, but whatever :) We headed to Wendy's for frosties and fries. After purchasing our wonderful meal, we drove to the AF cemetery (of all places!) and parked to enjoy. We talked. We talked about everything. There was never a dull or silent moment. We laughed. We got serious. After about 15 minutes, he drove me to his house and escorted me (yes, escorted!) to my car. We talked for a few more minutes, and then I left.
Thank you, Matt, for making our evening a spontaneous date. Thanks for jamming with me and being my inspiration in piano. I am so excited I got to go on at least one date before you leave on your mission next week, and I'm so excited for you to go out! You'll be a fantastic missionary. Thank you for everything you have been to me--an inspiration and a great friend.
Wow, who ever thought to score two dates in one day? I feel very blessed and honored to have spent my day with such wonderful boys! Here's to plenty more dates this summer :)
